LaGuardia Community College/CUNY, New York City Council Member Julie Won, and Queens Borough President Donovan J. Richards Jr. celebrated the co-naming of 29th Street between Skillman and 47th Avenues as “LaGuardia Community College Way” at a ceremony on June 1. The ceremony opened with a performance by the LaGuardia Jazz Ensemble, composed of Music Performance majors and led by Professor Thomas Dempsey. Remarks were delivered by LaGuardia President Kenneth Adams; Student Government Association President Garrett Morgan Jr.; Council Member Won; and Queens Borough President Richards. Both Won—who introduced the co-naming legislation in collaboration with the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT)—and Richards spoke about being the first in their families to earn college degrees, reflecting the experiences of many LaGuardia students.
