JORDAN, Minn

— A top-ten finish after Round 1 had Perham’s Brooklyn Glorvigen shocked after her first 18 holes at the Class AA state tournament.

She set herself up for a potential medal as she teed off with the top individual group at Ridges at Sand Creek on Wednesday, June 10. The course wasn’t as friendly as it was on Day 1 as Glorvigen shot an 18-over-par 90, ending the tournament with a 23-over-par 167 and tied for 28th.

“It was definitely an experience,” Glorvigen said. “It was a tricky course, and I just loved being out here. I was just here to have fun, and I already made it to the hard part so it was all about having fun from here on out.”

Despite the difficulties of Round 2, Glorvigen could be seen with a big smile draped across her face. She kept her spirits high, enjoying the final holes of her sophomore season.

Head coach Cory Solberg’s advice to her throughout the day — keep smiling and keep swinging.

“We were always trying to think of the positive when trying to make putts, trying to get up and down and so on,” Solberg said. “I think there might have been a little fatigue. I think everybody’s probably a little tired today, and that doesn’t help when you’re trying to compete at the highest levels possible. We stayed positive all three days which was great. Couldn’t be more proud of her efforts.”

Her day started with a double-bogey on the long Par 5 Hole 1. She came back even after birdies on Holes 3 and 4 but those were the only tweets that she would hear for the rest of the round.

On the back nine, Glorvigen had at least a bogey on every hole except for 10 and 12. She finished 13-over on the turn,

“I think I just didn’t execute the way I wanted to,” Glorvigen said. “Yesterday I did really good with my execution, and when I saw a shot I just did it. Then today, it wasn’t like that but we got it done.”

Glorvigen was the first Yellowjacket to return to state since Addicyn Zimmerman in 2023. She took the jump from No. 2 to No. 1 as a sophomore. Solberg hopes that the other girls on the team and those coming up through the program will see that their hard work will eventually pay off, as it did for Glorvigen.

“You can’t just show up and think it’s going to happen because golf is too hard that way,” Solberg said. “It’s not that easy. So hopefully this is a good springboard for Brooklyn for the summer to continue to play and practice at a high level and the rest of our teammates to also do the same.”

It was a special day for Perham golf as a whole. On the boys side, Reid Aakre had a 12th-place finish, proving he is one of the best Class AA golfers.

“If you had said that our 2 state participants would finish in the top half or something like that, maybe even the top third, I would have said, ‘We’ll take it,’” Solberg said. “That’s fantastic. It just goes to show the hard work, all the effort, the extra putting, all the extra time at the range, all of those things really pays off in the end.”

“It’s just been awesome,” Brooklyn said with a smile. “I’m so proud of Reid, too, for making it here, too. We’re just here to represent Permham, and it’s really cool that our small town can make it here.”
