Knicks fans erupted at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center following the 94-90 championship victory.
James Gabriel, 50, told The Post, “I’m very emotional. We finally did it. I never had one in my lifetime. I’m still in shock.”
Joseph Gentile and his wife Carol, both turning 50, shared in the triumph.
Joseph, a fan of 40 years, reflected on the franchise’s history of heartbreaks: “The Patrick Ewing finger debacle. The John Starks game seven shooting debacle. “
“The Charles Smith lamp debacle. It all got exercised tonight, and it’s the best feeling in the world as a Knick fan for life. Wow, is all I can say.”
The couple made the decision to travel from Manhattan to witness the historic moment.
“We couldn’t miss it,” Joseph continued.
“We knew, we had a feeling this was gonna be it. We decided Thursday morning, we said, eff it. Let’s do it. We got on a plane.”
“Had some travel issues last night, but we got here, and we saw it live. And our first date was actually a Knicks game, and it’s come full circle. It’s amazing. Amazing.”
Jared Whitmore, 43, from Queens said that he “waited for this moment my whole life, I feel like I can die a happy man right now. I knew it.”
“Knicks in 5. We are a team of destiny,” he continued.
“This is for my grandmother, who died a Knicks fan, who bled orange and blue. Y’all don’t know our struggling. We deserve this.”
Spurs fans, on the other hand, began to leave early before the ceremony.
Some were mourning the loss but looking to the future with optimism, yelling, “Next year. Next year.”
