After a decent clay court season, it was heartbreak for Cameron Norrie as he retired due to injury in his opening round match at Roland Garros. The Brit will be hoping his injuries are behind him as an important part of the season now awaits for Norrie. Last year, it was an incredible Wimbledon for Norrie who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon before going out to Carlos Alcaraz. Now, Norrie will aim to take confidence from last year’s showing as he aims to do well at Queen’s Club which is a tournament he has struggled at in recent years.
A big first test awaits in the form of fourth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Spaniard is normally so good on clay but a brutal draw meant that Davdovich Fokina exited the tournament at the second round stage. Grass hasn’t been Davidovich Fokina’s best surface with the Spaniard boasting a 15-16 win-loss record on the surface. Although his game isn’t suited for grass, Davidovich Fokina will be determined to look for solutions as he looks to win his first match at Queen’s Club since 2022.
Norrie will aim to serve aggressively and will use the backhand to dictate the tempo of the baseline rallies. Meanwhile, Davidovich Fokina will aim to be aggressive on return and use the backhand to open up space on the court. This will be a tough test for Norrie but the Brit will feel that this is a golden opportunity to record a big win on grass.
Prediction: Norrie in three sets.
Arthur Fery [WC] v Toby Samuel [WC] | H2H & Match FundamentalsArthur Fery [WC] v Toby Samuel [WC]H2H: First Meeting ATP Queen’s Club 2026London, EnglandGrass (O)Prize Money: €20,145Second on Court One (13:00 BST)BBC Two, BBC Iplayer and BBC Sport Online
It’s been a good last 12 months for Arthur Fery who has produced good wins and deep runs at Challenger level. A significant point in Fery’s development was his win against Roland Garros finalist Flavio Cobolli at the Australian Open. It has seen Fery rise up the rankings and is now aiming to make the most of the grass court season. After winning a match at Wimbledon last year, Fery will aim to continue his form from last year on the grass as he looks for more wins ahead of Wimbledon.
A fellow Brit awaits in the opening round in the form of Toby Samuel. The Brit is in some serious form having qualified for his Grand Slam of his career at Roland Garros before losing to Alex De Minaur in the opening round. The Brit has a big serve and competent net skills and with his confidence is producing some aggressive baseline shots to match. Now, Samuel will aim to translate that form onto the grass as he bids for a main draw wildcard at Wimbledon.
Fery will use the backhand to open up the space on the court as he will look to be smart on return. Meanwhile Samuel will be aggressive on serve and will look to finish points off at the net. This will be a great match between two in-form players but Fery’s game suits grass more and he should gain a crucial win at Queen’s Club.
Prediction: Fery in three sets.
