After years of advocacy, a bill intended to a protect children during divorce or custody proceedings has been approved by the state Legislature. It’s named for a little girl whose mother says her murder at the hands of her own father took place because she was not protected by the state’s legal system. Also, a group of disability rights advocates filed a lawsuit last week against New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act, which is set to go into effect on Aug. 5.
