Councilman urges Mayor Mamdani to increase NYC parks funding

There’s an ongoing city budget negotiations between the City Council and the Mamdani administration.

On the campaign trail last year, then-mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani pledged to fund the city’s parks with 1% of the city’s budget. However, the current amount proposed in ongoing negotiations in the City Council falls far below the mayor’s target.

Council member Ty Hankerson, who serves as the chair of the council’s Committee on Parks and Recreation, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to discuss more.

He represents neighborhoods in Queens, including Jamaica, South Richmond Hill, Baisley Park and South Ozone Park.
