Christopher Jackson, who was Tony-nominated for creating the role of George Washington in the Tony-winning musical Hamilton, will return to that role in the Broadway hit this fall.
The Grammy and Emmy-winning actor will again play America’s first president September 8, 2026-January 3, 2027, in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Jackson’s return follows Hamilton’s ten-year anniversary celebration on Broadway and the earlier return of fellow original cast member, Tony winner Leslie Odom, Jr., last fall.
“Returning to Hamilton as George Washington is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” said Jackson in a statement. “This show changed my life, and it remains one of the great honors of my career to be part of telling this story. To step back into this room, with this company and this audience, is something I will never take for granted.”

“Lin-Manuel wrote George Washington with Chris’ gorgeous voice and musicality in his head,” added Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller. “How lucky are we that we get to experience his George Washington one last time?”
Jackson originated the role of George Washington in Hamilton’s Off-Broadway and Broadway productions, earning a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He also received a Grammy as a principal soloist on the Original Broadway Cast Recording.
Jackson is also a founding member of Freestyle Love Supreme. His Broadway credits include In the Heights, The Lion King, Memphis, After Midnight, Bronx Bombers, Holler If Ya Hear Me, and Hell’s Kitchen.
On television, Jackson starred as Chunk Palmer on the CBS drama Bull and has appeared in And Just Like That…, When They See Us, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, A Gifted Man, Nurse Jackie, and more. His film credits include Hamilton on Disney+, In the Heights, Moana, Tracers, and Afterlife of the Party. As a songwriter and composer, Jackson won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Song for “What I Am,” written for Sesame Street with Bill Sherman.
Hamilton—with a book and score by Miranda—explores
the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Inspired by
the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow, the musical incorporates
historical figures such as George Washington, Aaron Burr, James Madison,
and Thomas Jefferson.
Hamilton also has direction by Thomas Kail,
choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, musical supervision and
orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, scenic design by David Korins, costume
design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound
design by Nevin Steinberg, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe,
casting by The Telsey Office‘s Bethany Knox, and general management by
Baseline Theatrical.
At the 70th Annual Tony Awards, Hamilton won 11 Tonys,
including Best Musical. The show went on to receive the Grammy Award,
Olivier Award, Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a special citation from the
Kennedy Center Honors.
Hamilton, which continues at Broadway’s Richard
Rodgers Theatre, officially opened August 6, 2015, following previews
that began July 13.
