But while Zuchowicki would contend that he doesn’t espouse a specific design style in his work, focusing instead on infusing his clients’ DNA into the projects, what he and his firm are known for is braiding disparate styles, color schemes, and preferences into a finished home that never feels too curated. “I said, ‘Okay, I’m gonna pull references from everything I like. I’m not gonna follow the rules,” he says. But this involved a fair amount of trust from his clients: “The most challenging part was trusting the process and envisioning how all the individual elements would come together,” they say. “So much of the design process required making decisions based on drawings and material samples, well in advance of everything being assembled in the space.”

The finished home, which took around 18 months from conception to install, includes Swedish Deco, American Deco, midcentury, and more, but it all works in harmony. There is color, like in the living room’s color-blocked plum and lavender rug, designed by Studio Zuchowicki and fabricated by Beauvais Carpets, or in the entryway’s blue-and-gold Gracie wallpaper. But there are also many odes to craftsmanship, like copper-plated walls in the living room, a Nakashima coffee table, and the primary bedroom’s bespoke straw marquetry cabinet.
The kitchen is flooded with light, courtesy of floor-to-ceiling windows. The bench is bespoke and upholstered with Dedar fabric; table, chairs, and arm pendant by Pierre Yovanovitch; and the ceiling pendants are vintage Angelo Lelii.
