As the Knicks take over Broadway in Lower Manhattan this Thursday to celebrate their NBA Championship triumph, New Yorkers headed to the ticker-tape parade or to the area for other reasons should expect some transportation changes.
Like all Lower Manhattan ticker-tape parades, the route will begin at Battery Park and West Street and run up Broadway, through the Canyon of Heroes, to City Hall, where Mayor Zohran Mamdani will present the Knicks team with the key to the city. The celebration will be the Knicks’ first-ever ticker-tape parade, after they defeated the San Antonio Spurs 5-1 last week, winning the championship for the first time in 53 years; they did not get a ticker-tape parade for their previous league titles in 1970 and 1973.
But the city will make several local transportation changes — such as road closures, increased ferry service, and bus reroutes — to make way for the festivities, which are expected to draw over one million revelers.

The city Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that it would boost Staten Island Ferry service on Thursday afternoon to help Staten Islands get to the parade faster. It will run the boats every 15 minutes, rather than the usual 30-minute interval between 1 and 4 p.m.
“The Knicks belong to all New Yorkers, and we’re ensuring that as many New Yorkers as possible are able to celebrate their historic run and get home safely when the party is over,” Mamdani said in a statement. “By doubling afternoon ferry service, we will keep our city moving while helping our Staten Island neighbors get home safely in the process.”
The NYPD will close all of Broadway from Battery Place through Worth Street, with the parade ending at Broadway and Chambers Street, accoridng to the group the Downtown Alliance. Cops will begin the street closures at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
Other streets the NYPD will close include State Street between Whitehall Street and Battery Place, Battery Place between Broadway and West Street, side street closures between Greenwich Street, Trinity Place and Church Street west of the parade and Nassau and Broad Streets on its eastern side. Park Row between Ann Street and the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge will only be open to official parking.
The MTA will close the City Hall R and W station during the parade, with trains skipping the stop, the Alliance said. It will also close the Broadway entrance to the Fulton Center station during the parade.
