NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — On Friday, there will be some noticeable changes around New York City in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates the day that enslaved Black people learned that they were free.
From closings to changes in garbage collection, here are things to know about Juneteenth.

Garbage and recycling collection
There will be no trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection. Residents who normally receive Friday collection may leave materials at the curb on Friday evening for collection starting on Saturday.
NYC Public Schools closed
New York City Public Schools students will be able to enjoy one final three-day weekend before summer break officially begins. There won’t be any New York State Regents examinations held.
Alternate Side Parking rules
Alternate Side Parking rules will be suspended on Friday. Drivers are reminded that parking within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant is illegal and that painted curbs at hydrant locations do not indicate where they can park.
