Vichal Kumar is a Democrat running in the primary contest for Rep. Nydia Velázquez’s seat.
The 7th Congressional District spans Brooklyn and Queens, including neighborhoods like Long Island City, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Woodhaven.
Kumar is facing off against three candidates: state Assembly member Claire Valdez, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and City Councilwoman Julie Won.
He says while his opponents have longer political resumes, his experience as a public defender makes him the right candidate to represent voters in Washington.
Kumar joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to talk about his campaign.
“I don’t come from politics. I come from that exact fight of supporting families every single day of their lives when their moments are hardest, and I come with solutions,” he said.
