(NewsNation) — A Texas woman is suing a New York City McDonald’s, saying a Sausage Egg McMuffin caused permanent injuries to her “physical, nervous, and mental systems.”
In the civil complaint filed in Manhattan Supreme Court last month, Yvette Hinds says she stopped to eat at the McDonald’s at 1651 Broadway on May 25, 2023. The complaint states that unknown to Hinds, the sandwich she ate was “not reasonably safe, good, sound, fit, proper, healthful, wholesome food, [or] free from contaminants.”
Instead, it argues the sandwich was “contaminated, tainted, poisonous, injurious and wholly unfit for human consumption.”
After Hinds finished the Sausage Egg McMuffin, she allegedly became “violently ill and nauseated, and suffered severe pains and distress throughout her body.” It further states that “her entire body became infected and poisoned.”
According to the complaint, Hinds has undergone several operations and treatments in an effort to cure her. Furthermore, she is allegedly now unable to perform household tasks and won’t be able to do them in the future.

While the complaint doesn’t detail her exact injuries, it says she has piles of medical debt due to care and treatment. It further alleges the debt is expected to grow as she continues treatment.
Hinds claims in the filings that the business and employees knew the popular breakfast sandwich was unfit to eat — and it’s due to their “negligence, carelessness and willful disregard” that she became sick.
Hinds is seeking money damages from the McDonald’s Corporation and the restaurant franchisee, as well as attorneys’ fees and court costs.

Hinds isn’t the only one not ‘lovin’ it’
This isn’t the only lawsuit filed against McDonald’s franchises across New York in recent years.
In January 2025, The Independent reported that a New York man sued a Staten Island franchise after he was served a hamburger containing a clump of hair and a piece of metal. The complaint alleges the employees were “incompetent, untrained, inadequate,” and that there weren’t enough personnel to oversee the food preparations.
In another case reported by The Daily Beast in February 2024, a different New York McDonald’s was sued by a guest with a severe dairy allergy after the guest was served a Big Mac with cheese. It sent the guest into anaphylactic shock and nearly caused him to go into respiratory failure.
