Hudson County Executive Craig Guy was unanimously re-elected chair of the county Democrats at Monday’s reorganization meeting, with West New York Commissioner Marielka Diaz still the vice chair and new executive board members named.

“I am very proud of the hard work and effort put forward by the entirety of our Hudson County Democratic Organization team to arrive at a moment in time where democrats throughout the county have a voice and a seat at the table to present new ideas and viewpoints to help propel us all forward,” Guy said in a statement this morning.
“Hudson County Democrats were instrumental in Mikie Sherrill’s historic win last year and the results put forward by our Hudson County Unity Team validate the fact that we are on the right path with the right people to take up the important work ahead.”
The HCDO;s executive board is rounded out with Gina Hulings as treasurer, Giovanni Ahmad was re-elected recording secretary, Dorothy Roszkowski as corresponding secretary, Mendes Toussaint as sergeant at-arms, and Bill Matsikoudis was re-elected parliamentarian.
In late April, Guy signaled that he had shored up support for a second term as chair by rolling out endorsements from 10 of the 12 county mayors, as HCV first reported.
Now he can look ahead to his prospect of being re-elected county executive next year, beginning with a Democratic primary election in June.
” … The work we do is meant to serve the public. When I was first elected county chair, I promised to open up our doors and make sure every democrat felt welcome because that was the best way to fulfill our shared obligation to public service,” Guy added.
“While we recognize there is so much more to do, this week’s overwhelming results show that we are on the right track. Together we are stronger, and we will need every ounce of that strength to restore sanity this November.”
