WASHINGTON (TNND) — Close to a million people are preparing to leave New York City if Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani becomes mayor, a new poll shows.

A poll that was conducted by J.L. Partners for the Daily Mail found that nine percent of New York City residents would “definitely” leave the city if Mamdani wins.

Nine percent is roughly 765,000 of New York residents. New York City has a population of 8.5 million.

More polling shows that 2.12 million residents of New York City would consider leaving if Mamdani has an election victory.

If 2.12 million residents leave the city, that would account for about 25% of New Yorkers.

Polling suggests Mamdani is expected to win the mayoral race on Nov. 4 as he is dominating his opponents, Curtis Sliwa and former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Last week, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers voted early in the election, as Mamdani’s support continues to increase.

He recently had a major rally with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.

He was also endorsed by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. It was also reported that he was praised by former President Barack Obama in a private phone call.

“Your campaign has been impressive to watch,” Obama told Mamdani, according to the New York Times. Obama stopped short of endorsing Mamdani for the job.
