Cleanup and restoration work continues after severe storms rolled through the region Thursday.
National Grid and NYSEG say their efforts continue Friday, after the storm knocked out power to thousands. Fortunately, that power has been mostly restored to the majority of the impacted counties.
Those storms also spawned numerous tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, and one tornado touchdown. The National Weather Service says it has teams doing storm surveys in Rock Stream, Cortland and Groton — and it confirmed Friday afternoon that a tornado touched down near Rock Stream in Yates County.
Thousands remain without power in Monroe County after the high winds messed with power lines. Rochester Gas & Electric crews continue to work on clearing those outages. Many of those, though, have an estimated restoration time of 11 p.m. Saturday.
Monroe County has activated its emergency operations center, where officials are working to monitor outages and 911 calls.
