BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Brooklyn FC Men fell 2-0 to Eastern Conference leaders Tampa Bay Rowdies in a USL Championship game at Maimonides Park on Saturday night.
Brooklyn (nine points), which is in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, fell to 2-8-3, while the first-place Rowdies (31) improved to 9-1-4.
Tampa Bay opened the scoring in the 29th minute from forward Russel Cicerone. Defender Dion Acoff’s shot was saved by Brooklyn goalkeeper Lukas Burns. Acoff recovered the rebound and delivered a cross to the back post that found Cicerone, who headed it home.
Only a few minutes later, the Rowdies found their second goal via a penalty. A tackle from Brooklyn midfielder Malik Pinto found the foot of Tampa Bay forward MD Meyers. Meyers converted the penalty past Burns in the 33rd minute.
Brooklyn tried to respond immediately with a long shot from JC Obregon, which was saved by keeper Jahmali Waite.
Tampa Bay had a few more chances to score, including hitting the crossbar in the 45th minute from a free kick.
In the second half, Brooklyn came out with more control but was unable to take advantage of its chances. CJ Olney, in particular, created several dangerous opportunities, including a volley shot in the 62nd minute that flew just over the bar. The shot nearly caught Waite out of position with a long shot from midfield, but did not have enough power.
Forward Pierre Da Silva came on in the 77th minute to make his USL Championship debut with Brooklyn. His free kick in the 87th minute was deflected by the defensive wall and rolled out for a corner kick
