While He Built This City, Joe Macken’s scale model of New York’s five boroughs, continues to enchant guests at the Museum of the City of New York uptown (up through September 30), the Upper East Side cultural institution temporarily moved further downtown for a record-breaking night of fundraising. Guests—including Christine Schwarzman, Lara Spencer, and Gotham FC players Andrea Kitahata and Sarah Schupansky—alongside honorees, including Ja Rule, Alex Rodriguez, and Laurie M. Tisch—gathered in the halls of Cipriani 42nd Street, in all its Neo-Renaissance New York splendor, for the museum’s annual Gotham Dreams gala on Wednesday, June 17.
The evening, hosted by the museum’s board chair Matt Brown along with Marisa Brown, raised more than $2.6 million—making it the most successful in the museum’s history—to support MCNY’s educational, historical, and research endeavors. Actor and singer Erich Bergen emceed the ceremonies, and the museum’s director and president, Stephanie Hill Wilchfort gave remarks. Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of Partnership for New York City, received a lifetime achievement award for the non-profit’s decades of collaboration with the museum. Some 600 guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, and snacks from New York’s own Sigmund’s Pretzels. At the end of the evening, as revelers continued to bask in glow of the Knicks’ championship win, Bergen led guests in a high-energy rendition of “New York, New York.” There’s never been a better time to celebrate the city, but luckily for residents and visitors alike, the Museum of the City of New York celebrates the metropolis 365 days a year.
