MARCY, N.Y. — A major power transmission project has been completed in Central New York, connecting communities with a new 100-mile Smart Path Connect transmission line.
The New York Power Authority and National Grid announced the milestone at the Clark Energy Center in Marcy.
The project has been underway since 2022 and is designed to modernize power systems, improve reliability, reduce grid congestion and expand access to clean energy sources.
“So, we have to continue to look for transmission solutions; we also have to build more generation as part of what our nuclear effort is about, but to the extent that we can develop more generation, build a transmission to basically attract new generation as well. Build that highway system so that more generation can be built around the State to power our economy,” Justin E. Driscoll, president and CEO of New York Power Authority, said.
The new energy system is expected to save New York energy ratepayers nearly $438 million each year.
