The day after his endorsed candidates scored a clean sweep on primary night, Mayor Zohran Mamdani Wednesday sounded validated and vindicated.

He told reporters that the candidates he backed have the economic message that connects with working people.

“What their successes represent is a shift in the balance of power between working people and their special interests,” Mamdani said. “Finally working people are going to have more of a voice in the halls of power, whether that hall may be in Albany or in [Washington, D.C.]”

Mamdani endorsed three candidates for Congress: Darializa Avila Chevalier in NY-13, Brad Lander in NY-10 and Claire Valdez in NY-7.

He also made five endorsements for the state legislature. Many of them are fellow democratic socialists.

Two of the mayor’s candidates for Congress knocked off incumbents: Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat.

They had the backing of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of Brooklyn.

The mayor said the two planned to talk Wednesday. NY1 reached out to spokespeople.

Jeffries reacted in D.C. on Wednesday.

When asked of the mayor is making “enemies” on Capitol Hill by endorsing against incumbents, Jeffries said, “The mayor and I agree to strongly disagree about some of his endorsements and he’s got work to do in terms of the conversations that he’s gonna have with members of Congress, moving forward.”

On the other hand, while Mamdani was counting the victories in New York, President Trump was keeping score

“Mayor Mamdani pulled 3 solid Communists” Trump posted on social media. “I went 16-0 last night, helping to elect wonderful American Patriots.”

Meanwhile, the mayor had no worries about Republicans around the country making the democratic socialist candidates and highlighting policies like ending all deportations and abolishing prisons — the face of the party.

In fact, he welcomed it.

“To them, I say that we are ready for that because for far too long we have been told that it is not possible to fight for working people and win,” Mamdani said. “These candidates can show that they’ve can. Let the Republicans talk about that more.”
