NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — For a second consecutive year, the TCS New York City Marathon has broken the record for the largest marathon ever, according to New York Road Runners.

The nonprofit organization announced Monday that 59,226 runners finished the race, topping last year’s marathon record of 55,646 by more than 3,500 racers.

Some other notable achievements from Sunday’s race included a new course record for the Women’s open division at 2:19:51, which was set by champion Hellen Obiri, according to NYRR.

Fiona O’Keeffe, who finished the Women’s open division at 2:22:49, set a record for the fastest time ever by an American woman.
