STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Democrats turned out at the polls Tuesday for primary races that stood to impact both Staten Island and Brooklyn. So how exactly did each borough vote?
For state Senate, incumbent Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Democrat who represents the North Shore and South Brooklyn, was challenged by newcomer Omar Mohamad.
Scarcella-Spanton defeated Mohamad, a democratic socialist, with a commanding victory.
For the 11th Congressional District, which encompasses Staten Island and South Brooklyn, it was a “ghost primary” between Michael DeCillis and Allison Ziogas. The latter candidate remained on the ballot despite the suspension of her campaign in April. DeCillis cemented his place as the Democratic candidate in the November general election against incumbent Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.
For New York Comptroller, a post held by Democrat Thomas DiNapoli for nearly 20 years, DiNapoli defeated candidates Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle.
