Crowds celebrated as Claire Valdez declared victory in the Democratic primary for the 7th Congressional District, part of a broader set of progressive wins that also included races in Albany. The results are being seen by supporters as a sign of growing momentum for the movement within New York politics.
The outcomes also provided a political boost for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who endorsed several of the winning candidates. He said the results reflect a desire among voters for a new kind of politics centered on working people.
Grace Mauser, co-chair of NYC DSA, joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss the results and what they could mean for the direction of the Democratic Party in New York.
