The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) and Queens Night Market will host a World Cup watch party in Corona this Sunday for the first knockout game of the 2026 World Cup, with Canada and South Africa set to go head to head.
Co-hosts Canada booked its place in the last-32 after finishing second in Group B behind Switzerland, while South Africa secured its passage to the knockouts by beating South Korea 1-0 to finish second in Group A behind Mexico. It marks the first time that both nations have reached the knockout stages of the World Cup and it is the only confirmed knockout fixture so far.
It also the only World Cup fixture to take place on Sunday, June 28, kicking off at 3 p.m.
NYSCI and Queens Night Market have been hosting free “Soccer Sundays” watch parties throughout the World Cup, welcoming up to 5,000 guests to outdoor events in Corona, with Queens Night Market setting up around eight stalls at every event to provide culturally-appropriate food offerings.

Spaces at the Soccer Sundays watch parties will be given on a first come, first serve basis, with fans encouraged to arrive early. Special access will be granted to New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) guests who purchase tickets to the center in advance.
NYSCI President and CEO Lisa Gugenheim said the event aimed to welcome “all World Cup fans” to the outdoor space in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Soccer Sundays will continue at NYSCI through the remainder of the tournament, with a watch party planned for a slate of round-of-16 games on July 5 and a final watch party planned for the final on July 19. There are no World Cup games scheduled for July 12.
