CITYWIDE — MAYOR ZOHRAN MAMDANI on Thursday said the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to strip Temporary Protected Status from hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants will cause “enormous pain” across the five boroughs. In a release, he assured immigrants facing deportation that the city would not turn its back on them, and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs would share additional information and resources soon.
In the meantime, “If you have questions about your status or need legal assistance, call the MOIA Immigration Legal Support Hotline at 800-354-0365. Free and confidential help is available,” the mayor said.
With the Supreme Court decision, more than 350,000 TPS holders who have now lost legal status. According to Brooklyn College, there are roughly 90,000 Haitians in Brooklyn.
