Baldwinsville man arrested after trying to leave the country following prior arrest and travel ban

  • June 26, 2026

NORWICH, N.Y. (WBNG) — A Baldwinsville man who was previously arrested and accused of submitting duplicate billing to Chenango County for legal services was arrested again on Friday after allegedly violating travel restrictions tied to that case, according to information from New York State Police.

Donatello Marof Lazarati, 41, was arrested on Friday, June 26, at John F. Kennedy International Airport on the charges of second-degree bail jumping, a felony, and second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, troopers said.

The new charges stem from a court order issued following Lazarati’s arraignment on a prior felony charge, troopers said. As part of that order, Lazarati was prohibited from leaving the United States and was directed to surrender his passport, police said.

State police said they were notified on Thursday, June 25, that Lazarati was attempting to leave the country and had purchased an airline ticket to Qatar at JFK.

The underlying case began Tuesday, June 23, when police arrested Lazarati on a charge of third-degree grand larceny, a felony. Investigators alleged that Lazarati, working through the Assigned Counsel Program in Chenango County, submitted duplicate billing to the county for the same legal services and accepted payment, causing a loss of about $4,700, troopers said.

Lazarati was arrested and processed on June 24 at the Chenango County Jail and released, troopers said. He was ordered not to leave the country and to surrender his passport by June 26, police said.

After his arrest at the airport, Lazarati was transported to Troop C and processed at the State Police barracks in Norwich, police said. He was then turned over to the Chenango County Jail on $35,000 cash bail, $50,000 credit card, or $250,000 partially secured bond, police said.
