BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK — THE TALL SHIPS ELISSA, Sagres, Sundarshini, Gorch Fock and Mircea will be docked at Brooklyn Bridge Park on July 3 through July 7 during their national Sail250 voyages. They will join the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world for the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary on July 4.
The historic merchant ship Elissa, built in 1877, will be the oldest tall ship visiting the park and will dock at the Brooklyn Bridge Marina. Serving as the official Tall Ship of Texas, Elissa has been making a journey of more than 2,500 miles on its way to New York City and will lead fellow Class A tall ships into New York Harbor on July 4.
Docking at Piers 1, 3 and 5: The 1937 Sagres, flagship sail training vessel of the Portuguese Navy; the Indian Navy’s modern three-masted barque Sudarshini; the German Navy’s Gorch Fock, launched in 1958; and the 1938 Mircea, official training ship for the Romanian Navy.
On July 5 to July 7, from noon to 6 p.m., the ships will be open for free self-guided deck tours. Gorch Fock and Mircea are offering tours on July 6 and 7 only. Reservations are strongly recommended due to expected crowds.
