June 26 is Coach Rick Brunson Appreciation Day in the city of Syracuse.
“I bleed orange, not just orange and blue, but I bleed orange,” said Rick Brunson, assistant Coach for the New York Knicks and recent NBA Champions.
“I left here in ’87 to go to high school in Boston, but I came here every summer and stay with my grandmother and hung out in Syracuse, I’m here every summer, I’m proud of Syracuse,” said Brunson.
Elected officials and community members joined Mayor Sharon Owens to give Brunson his proclamation.
“Sports is huge here in Syracuse, to be able to just have this moment in Syracuse with coach, it means a lot, it’s going to mean a lot to this community,” said Owens.
Brunson says it’s still all surreal, making NBA history with his son Jalen.
“You work your whole life teaching your kids how to grow, be successful and to get to the mountain top of your profession, and then you get a chance to hug your son after winning a championship,” said Brunson. “I’m honored, I’m humbled. I just can’t imagine this, a kid from Syracuse.”
