On Nov. 4, Southern Tier voters are hitting the polls to decide a number of local races.
Some of the top local offices up for election this year include City of Binghamton mayor, Broome County clerk, Village of Johnson City mayor and two Vestal Town Board seats. One seat on Binghamton City Council is also up for grabs, after the First Ward’s representative resigned in January.
Polls open at 6 a.m. on Election Day 2025, and we’ve got the details you need on opening hours, key reminders, and tips for making the most of your voting experience.
When can I vote on Election Day in New York?
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Where can I vote in person?
More than 100 polling sites are available in Broome County, with a full list of polling locations available at broomevotes.com/pollingplaces.
To find the correct polling place for your address in Broome, Tioga, Chenango or Delaware counties, use the New York State Board of Elections lookup tool. You will be asked to enter your full name, date of birth, zip code and county.
When did early voting end?
In 2025, early voting began Oct. 25 and ended on Nov. 2. Four voting locations were available to Broome County residents:
Vestal Public Library, 320 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal.
Broome County Public Library, 185 Court St., Binghamton.
George F. Johnson Memorial Library, 1001 Park St., Endicott.
Taste NY Building, 840 Upper Front St., Town of Dickinson.
Who is on the ballot in Broome County?
Various government offices throughout Broome County will be on the ballot in 2025, with one county-wide election for Broome County clerk appearing on all Broome County voters’ ballots. Some major races in 2025 include Binghamton mayor, Johnson City mayor and Vestal Town Board.
In January, Broome County Clerk Joe Mihalko, who has served in the position for eight years, announced he would not be seeking another term. Running for the open position are Democrat Nick Libous and Republican Aaron Martin.
Current City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham, a Republican, and Democratic challenger Miles Burnett are on the ballot Nov. 4.
Democrat Carla Murray, appointed to Binghamton City Council’s District 1 seat following Olamni Porter’s resignation in January, is running in a special election against Republican Kevin Micha to determine who will serve for the remainder of Porter’s term.
Incumbent Republican Martin Meaney and Democratic challenger Christina Charuk are running for Village of Johnson City mayor.
Vestal residents will also elect two town board members. Running for the seats are incumbent Democrat Sue Messina, Republican Andrew A. Gowe, Democrat Matt Padbury and Republican William A. Stewart. One of the seats was vacated when Stephen Donnelly resigned in April.
What propositions are on the ballot in New York?
All Southern Tier voters will have the opportunity to vote on a New York State Ballot Proposition regarding an Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County.
The amendment allows skiing and related trail facilities on state forest preserve land in Essex County. The site is 1,039 acres and requires the state to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park.
A “YES” vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack forest preserve.
A “NO” vote does not authorize this use.
