Broadway says goodbye to both Death Becomes Her at the Lunt-Fontanne and The Fear of 13 at the James Earl Jones June 28.
The former is giving its final performance after opening November 21, 2024. The musical brings the 1992 cult classic film to the stage, following two rivals who gain eternal youth via a magic potion with some dirty side effects. Tony winner Christopher Gattelli directs and choreographs, with a book by Marco Pennette (adapted from the screenplay by Martin Donovan and David Koepp) and songs by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey. Currently leading the cast are Betsy Wolfe as Madeline Ashton and Jennifer Simard as Helen Sharp, along with Christopher Sieber as Ernest Menville, Michelle Williams as Violet Van Horn, Taurean Everett as Chagall, and Josh Lamon as Stefan.
The Fear of 13 quietly canceled its final two weeks of performances earlier this month, with the Lindsey Ferrentino-penned play having originally been announced to continue through July 12.
Directed by David Cromer, the production stars two-time Oscar winner Adrien Brody (The Brutalist) and recent Golden Globe nominee Tessa Thompson (Hedda), both making their Broadway debuts leading the cast. Based on a documentary film by David Sington, the work tracks real-world figure Nick Yarris, a man convicted of murder who then petitions the court not for an appeal, but for an execution date.
