FITCHBURG — The 90th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft is now open for viewing, until Sept.13 at the Fitchburg Art Museum, 185 Elm St.

The Fitchburg Art Museum held an Opening Celebration on Friday with photographer Claudio Eshu, highlighting her work, “Her Hands Fed You, but Her Blade Freed Us,” 2024.

Museum representatives said the 90th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft is one of the longest-running juried exhibitions in New England.

This annual tradition at the Fitchburg Art Museum spotlights the artists and crafters of the region by providing a museum environment for their work and connecting them with fellow creators, patrons and art enthusiasts.

“Please join us in celebrating our creative community!” urged a press release from the museum.

This year’s exhibition is juried by artist and educator Lissa Cramer. Cramer is the director of the Boston University Art Galleries. She received her master’s of science degree in Arts Administration from Boston University and a bachelor of arts degree in Art History from the University of Kansas. Cramer is an experienced gallery director with a demonstrated history of executing distinguished and forward-thinking exhibitions.

“We are lucky to have Cramer’s discerning eye selecting artwork for The 90th Regional,” said museum representatives in the press release.

Prizes were awarded at the Opening Celebration. The First Prize winner will have a solo exhibition at FAM in the summer of 2027. This exhibition is organized by FAM’s Terry and Eva Herndon Assistant Curator Sarah Harper.

The 90th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft is sponsored by contributions from Workers Credit Union, Mike Shea and Toni Wilcox, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Fitchburg Cultural Council and the Cultural Councils of Gardner, Boylston, Templeton, Harvard, Marlborough, Lunenburg, Groton, Ashburnham, Ayer, Lancaster and Westminster.

The mission of the Fitchburg Art Museum is to inspire creativity and learning, and to contribute to the well-being of our diverse communities in Fitchburg, North Central Massachusetts and New England. To accomplish this mission, the museum organizes exhibitions of the work of New England contemporary artists and artworks from its art historical collections, offers programs for learners of all ages, supports public art projects, invites community participation and partnerships, and stimulates the creative economy — all in the spirit of inclusivity.

he Fitchburg Art Museum serves the cities of Fitchburg and Leominster and the surrounding communities in North Central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire. Founded in 1925, FAM plays a vital role in the cultural life of the region and has recently repositioned itself to focus on community access and service. FAM uses its artistic and educational resources to aid in the economic revitalization of Fitchburg, and the museum maintains active educational partnerships with the local school systems, as well as Fitchburg State University.

“FAM is an engine for creativity, education, community building, and fun,” its press release states.

The museum’s Centennial Free Admission program is supported by Rollstone Bank and Trust. Its $100,000 sponsorship enables the museum to offer free admission for all through 2029.

Museum hours are Wednesday through Friday: 12 to 4 p.m.; Saturday through Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; First Thursday of each month: 12 to 7 p.m.
