WATERBURY – A New York City man was arrested on Sunday after firing a gun into the air near Chase Avenue, police say.
In a release Sunday night, Waterbury police Sgt. Joseph Morais said William Pichardo, a 51-year-old from the Bronx, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal sale or transfer of a firearm and carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit.
Pichardo was held on a $500,000 bond and will be arraigned Monday morning, Morais said.
Officers responded to the area of Chase Avenue and Cooke Street for a report of shots fired at 1:53 p.m., he said. At the scene, officers located several spent shell casings in the road, Morais said.
No property damage was observed to the surrounding area, he said, adding there were no reported victims or victims located. He said officers learned throughout the course of their investigation that a man had discharged a firearm into the air during an isolated disturbance.
Morais said officers identified the suspect as Pichardo and arrested him.
