The Fashion Institute of Technology has opened the Joyce F. Brown Academic Building in Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 10-story, 100,000-square-foot facility was designed as a hub for creativity and innovation, housing disciplines including art, design, fashion, business, and technology.Â

Sitting behind a predominantly glass facade, the building houses 26 classrooms and studios as well as the largest campus knitting lab in the United States. Meanwhile, a new student commons occupies an entire floor beneath a 20-foot ceiling. The scheme is aiming to achieve LEED Gold certification.
