The city of Utica says it is getting $4.3 million from the Environmental Protection Agency’s brownfield grant program.
According to the city, $3.8 million will be going toward helping to clean up the old Mele manufacturing site. The city said it has spent the last two years coming up with a remediation plan.
Also according to the city, another half a million dollars will be going toward assessing properties within the city’s brownfield opportunity area.
The remaining money will be used for community engagement.
