(NewsNation) — A JetBlue pilot reported striking a drone while flying into New York City on Monday morning, federal officials confirmed.
“It hit us right above the cockpit,” the pilot can be heard saying in communications with air traffic controllers.
The pilot said JetBlue flight 948 collided with the drone at approximately 3,000 feet altitude while approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport at around 7:15 a.m. ET., the Federal Aviation Administration wrote on X. The pilot told air traffic control it was about 10-12 miles before landing.
A post-flight inspection didn’t reveal any damage to the plane, but the FAA said it will continue investigating. “This information is preliminary and subject to change,” the agency added.

The plane had departed from Las Vegas before the crew “reported a possible drone encounter during the aircraft’s final approach into New York,” JetBlue wrote in a statement.
“The flight landed without incident, customers deplaned normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision,” according to the statement. “Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and we will assist with any relevant investigations.”
