The city of Buffalo will not be hosting a fireworks display this year for the Fourth of July.

A city spokesperson said an appropriate site to hold a safe and widely accessible display was not identified.

“The administration had been in discussions with local business leaders to plan a Fourth of July fireworks event for the City of Buffalo. After exploring potential locations, an appropriate site could not be identified that would provide a safe and widely accessible viewing experience for residents. As a result, the City will not be hosting a downtown fireworks display this year,” a city spokesperson said in a statement.

The city encourages people to enjoy one of many other celebrations across Western New York, such as the Buffalo Bisons firework display this Friday at Sahlen Field.

“We encourage Buffalo residents to enjoy the many Independence Day celebrations taking place throughout Western New York, including the fireworks display at Sahlen Field on July 3,” the statement continued.
