It came down to the final day, but New York City has an approved budget for the new fiscal year.
The City Council voted 44-6 to adopt the nearly $126 billion spending plan after weeks of negotiations between Mayor Zohran Mamdani and council leaders.
The budget includes an expansion of the Fair Fares program, more funding for parks, restored immigration legal services and the creation of a new rental assistance voucher program.
Calling it “a budget that delivers for the most vulnerable New Yorkers, that strengthens the services they rely on, and that safeguards their financial future,” Council Speaker Julie Menin said the plan is focused on making the city “safer, more livable and more affordable.”
