Major New York City theatrical productions and high-profile performers are preparing for final performances as several Broadway and Off-Broadway shows have announced closing dates and cast departures scheduled through November 2026, according to Playbill.
Star-studded revivals such as the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Proof,” starring Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle, and the Tony-winning “Ragtime,” are among the notable productions ending their runs this summer.
The upcoming shift in the theater landscape follows a successful season where Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman,” became the most awarded play revival in Broadway history before seting its own closing date for August 9, according to Playbill.
Other major closings include the 10-time Tony Award-winning “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” on August 30 and August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” which features the Broadway debut of Taraji P. Henson as per the report.
Individual departures involve performers Mariska Hargitay and Maya Rudolph both finishing their respective runs on July 5, while Jordan Fisher and Nikki M. James will leave Little Shop of Horrors on July 19 to be succeeded by Ethan Slater and Betsy Wolfe.
“The Gazillion Bubble Show,” will conclude a nearly 20-year Off-Broadway run on September 7 after more than 6,800 performances and “Heathers: The Musical” will close in November before launching a North American tour in 2027, according to the outlet.
