TOWN OF OSWEGATCHIE, New York (WWNY) – A report of a property damage incident turned into a Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) arrest.
New York State Police say it happened around 5:15 p.m. on November 3 when troopers responded to Canton Street in the Town of Oswegatchie for a property damage incident.
Troopers observed a 2019 gray Jeep Renegade resting near a telephone pole. It was determined that the driver was lying next to it after being administered three doses of Narcan.
The driver was identified as Matthew Bogardus, 39, of Brier Hill.
According to State Police, Bogardus became conscious and combative toward Ogdensburg Rescue EMTs, was placed in restraints, and transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for evaluation.
Upon release from the hospital, Bogardus was taken to the State Police in Ogdensburg for further investigation, where he failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
A Drug Recognition Expert evaluation indicated Bogardus was impaired, and a blood sample was secured to determine drug content.
Bogardus was found to be in possession of narcotics during the search.
Bogardus was charged with:
Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by DrugsDWAI Combined Influence of Drugs or Alcohol and Drugs7th-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
He was also issued multiple vehicle and traffic law tickets.
Bogardus was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oswegatchie Court at a later date in November.
