On June 25, Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. announced his allocation of $2.87 million in capital funding to support the construction of RIVER FUND’s new community center, right next door to its current Lefferts Boulevard headquarters. Richards said, “For more than three decades, RIVER FUND in Richmond Hill has been feeding our families, uplifting our youth, and growing its base of volunteers looking to make a difference in their communities. And as this incredible anti-poverty organization continues to grow, so must its physical space in order to support expanded programming. Going up on this site will be a 7,000 square-foot, three-story community center that will enable RIVER FUND to expand the scope and variety of the workforce development programs, food assistance efforts and other youth mentorship opportunities it provides. Because we take poverty personally, as RIVER FUND’s slogan goes, my office is committed to supporting this organization and others like it as much as we can, because the positive impacts they have on our families are immeasurable.”
