Calling all nature enthusiasts!
The Alliance for Flushing Meadows Corona Park invites people to join the FMCP Stewardship program and volunteer to beautify Queens’ crown jewel on Mondays and Wednesdays.
On Monday mornings, FMCP Stewardship meets at Fantasy Forest, located at 53-51 111 St. within the park, at 10 a.m. and engages in various beautification activities, such as gardening, weeding, litter collecting and more, until 1 p.m.
Similarly, FMCP Stewardship meets at the Unisphere at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays to beautify and clean FMCP until 1 p.m.
The events provide a great opportunity to connect with nature and community members while helping create flourishing park spaces, the alliance says. They run every week through Sept. 2.
The “Monday Morning Meetup” and “Weeding Wednesdays” occur rain or shine except for extreme winds or thunderstorms. Participants are advised to be sure to stay hydrated and wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and a hat.
They may bring gloves and gardening tools if they have them, but if not, FMCP Stewardship will provide them.
