Binghamton University on Thursday opened a new cleanroom facility which will help students learn about semiconductor manufacturing.
The new cleanroom will provide hands-on experience to help train help more than 100 students a year grow the local chip workforce, according to the university.
U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer helped deliver $1 million in federal funding toward the project and joined school leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the cleanroom and microelectric packaging research facility.
The university is offering an “Intro to NanoFab” course this fall.
