NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are reportedly tying the knot Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, drawing fans from across Connecticut to the city.
Travelers departing from New Haven’s Union Station said the event was on their minds as they boarded trains headed into New York.
Fans make the trip
Alba Crespo said the uncertainty surrounding the event was part of the draw.
“It’s Taylor Swift at the end of the day. We really don’t know what’s going to happen,” Crespo said.
Bella Patel said she has been a Swift fan since childhood and was making the trip from New Haven hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple.
“I love Taylor Swift. I’ve been a Swiftie since I was three years old, so I just hope maybe I can see something,” Patel said.
Patel said she was also bracing for the crowds near the venue.
“I’m expecting a lot of traffic. A lot of people. A lot of congestion and hard to get around,” she said.
Some fans staying away
Huge tents have gone up around Madison Square Garden to provide privacy for the event, according to the script.
The Doura family was also heading into New York City Friday, but not for the wedding. Gwen Doura said she is a Swift fan and had thoughts about what the Madison Square Garden event might actually be.
“I’m excited for her,” Doura said. “If anything, I think she got married on the side. This is probably the reception. That’s what makes sense to me.”
Her father, Greg Doura, said the family planned to attend a Broadway show and keep their distance from the wedding venue.
“As much as she is a Swiftie, we are going to a Broadway show and trying to stay away from the madness,” Greg Doura said. “Everyone’s been talking about it for the last week.”
