With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
“Dog Day Afternoon”
Emmy-winner Jon Bernthal is currently starring in the screen-to-stage adaptation of the 1975 Sidney Lumet film “Dog Day Afternoon.”
The show centers around the true story of a botched bank robbery that took place in Brooklyn. Bernthal plays Sonny, a role made famous on screen by Al Pacino.
“Music City”
On the off-Broadway front, check out “Music City” — now playing at St. Luke’s Theatre.
“Music City” features a score by chart-topping country songwriter JT Harding. In the show, audiences follow two singer-songwriters from Nashville just trying to catch a break.
“Birthright”
Over at MCC on 52nd Street, “Birthright” by Tony Award-winner Jonathan Spector follows a group of friends who first connect on a Birthright trip to Israel in 2006.
Spanning nearly two decades, it explores identity, friendship and what it truly means to belong.
“Matthew Morrison: SHOW UP”
A 54 Below, “Glee” alum Matthew Morrison takes center stage July 9 through July 11.
He promises to leave you with a sense of “wonder about your own life.”
