State Police to increase Fourth of July patrols targeting impaired and distracted drivers

The New York State Police announced an increase in patrols targeting drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

This special enforcement period began on Friday and will run through Sunday.

During this enforcement period, drivers can expect to encounter sobriety checkpoints and DWI patrols.

Troopers will also be looking for drivers using their phones and other electronic devices while behind the wheel.

During last year’s Fourth of July enforcement period, Troopers issued 10,497 total tickets, arrested 210 people for DWI, 258 tickets for distracted driving, and 301 tickets for Move Over law violations.
