Deputy Sheriff Hunter Lawrence of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested by the New York State Police as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual abuse involving a child under 17, according to a statement the Sheriff’s Office released.
Authorities announced that Lawrence, who has served as a Road Patrol Division Deputy Sheriff since June 2023, was charged on Friday.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office stated it is fully cooperating with state police and will continue to do so throughout the investigation.
As the investigation is being conducted by an outside agency, the Sheriff’s Office declined to comment further on the specifics of the case.
Pending the outcome of the criminal case and an internal administrative investigation, Lawrence has been placed on paid administrative leave and stripped of law enforcement duties, including the authority to carry a department-issued firearm.
