Dutchess County officials say thousands of residents are without power after a severe thunderstorm overnight on the Fourth of July caused “significant damage” to powerlines and trees.
The county says restoration of power and roadways is expected to take multiple days.
Officials are warning residents and motorists that the most significant impacts were in city and Town of Poughkeepsie, East Fishkill, LaGrange, Beekman, Union Vale and village and town of Pawling.
The county’s Public Works and Emergency Response departments are working with teams from Central Hudson and New York State Electric & Gas to clear roads and restore power.
As of 11:45 a.m. Sunday, NYSEG is reporting 7,454 outages in Dutchess County.
Across the entire region, Central Hudson is reporting 649 outages, with 46,225 total customers impacted.
Dry ice and bottled water distribution events are being run by Central Hudson starting at 12 p.m. Sunday at the following locations:
Home Depot at 3470 North Road, Poughkeepsie
Home Depot at 450 Route 9, Fishkill
Lowe’s at 650 Route 299, Highland
