Yonkers resident Abundio Hernandez Cantu, 36, was arrested on Monday, June 29, in connection with the incident, which happened in the Bronx on Tuesday, June 23, the NYPD told Daily Voice.
According to police, at around 10 p.m. on the day of the incident, a 13-year-old girl had been on board a BX9 MTA bus going northbound when she was approached by a man. When she and the man left the bus near Broadway and West 261 Street, he allegedly grabbed her and dragged her into a wooded area inside Van Cortlandt Park.
The man, alleged to be Hernandez Cantu, then sexually assaulted her before fleeing to an unknown location, according to authorities.
The victim was later taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Hernandez Cantu is charged with rape.
