A family Fourth of July barbecue in Coney Island turned into a mass shooting Saturday night, leaving eight people wounded, including four children, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. in the courtyard of a residential complex near Surf Avenue and West 30th Street. Police said a man wearing a ski mask fired multiple rounds into the courtyard, where families had gathered for a holiday barbecue.

2. Over two dozen sickened in growing cluster of Legionnaires’ disease on Upper East Side

A growing cluster of Legionnaires’ disease cases on Manhattan’s Upper East Side has reached 14 confirmed infections, according to city health officials.

The New York City Health Department announced Sunday that ZIP code 10075 has been added to the investigation, joining ZIP codes 10028 and 10128. New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin said officials expect the number of confirmed cases to increase as more people are tested.

3. Fire breaks out on Brooklyn Bridge during New York’s fireworks show

A fire broke out on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York during the city’s July Fourth fireworks show, spreading flames and setting off a plume of smoke before firefighters extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were seen dousing the flames shortly before 10 p.m. on the bridge, which had been closed to traffic during the show.
