Clouds will increase overnight and into the morning. It will be a mostly cloudy start to our Wednesday, but we will be rain-free for the morning commute.

By the afternoon, the winds will begin to pick up and there will be the potential for high gusty winds that could lead to damage in spots. Some locations across Central New York could have gusts around 50 to 60 mph.

The rain will likely begin by early evening across Central New York. The rain will be light to moderate, with the wind being the biggest weather impact on Wednesday.

A few light spotty showers will be possible overnight Wednesday into early Thursday before the sun briefly returns for Thursday afternoon. Some areas across the Tug Hill Plateau into the Adirondacks could see wet snow with some light accumulations into Thursday morning.

Another disturbance will bring us showers on Friday.

4. Classes resume a day after one injured in shooting at SUNY Morrisville

After a preliminary investigation into the Monday afternoon shooting in South Hall, state police said Tuesday that the shooting of a 20-year-old man “was an isolated dispute between people who were familiar with each other” and that the shooting victim is not a student at the school.

5. Shutdown now tied for longest in U.S. history; Trump says no SNAP benefits until government reopens

As the government shutdown stretched into its 35th day, tying the record for the longest in U.S. history, the Senate failed again to pass a stopgap federal funding bill Tuesday. The 15th failed vote took place as 42 million low-income Americans miss their nutrition assistance payments and hundreds of thousands of federal workers go without pay.
