Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce donated $26 million to charities ahead of their big wedding in the city last week, including multiple organizations in New York.
One of them is New York Cares. The volunteer network works with hundreds of nonprofits, schools and city agencies to mobilize and bring together volunteers.
Other New York organizations they donated to included Food Bank For NYC, City Harvest and Musical Mentors, a nonprofit that connects music teachers with students in need.
Sapreet Saluja, executive director of New York Cares, joined NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry on “News All Day” to discuss what the donation means.
“I would say that in many ways it’s a double gift,” Saluja said. “It’s the gift of the actual funds that are going to power more impact across the city, and it’s leadership in a way.”
New York Cares says hundreds of Swifties have joined in on the generosity. The nonprofit has set a Taylor Swift-themed fundraising goal of 1,989 donors, and is encouraging donations of $13, $26 and $87.
